Why I can't have nice things
I know, three posts in one day, but I really need your opinion on this new layout.
Okay, here's the thing. There was that post about Keyes and his denial of Obama's African-American heritage. Then there was my more juvenile post about how nothing ain't fun no more.
The former being infinitely more important than the latter, I didn't want it buried under my own narcissism. So I used a little blogger-sanctioned hack and made these little previews that expand when clicked on.
But I don't know if I like them. They don't seem to render correctly and they make things look a little busch league. What do you think? Take the poll to the right.
PLEASE COMMENT WITH SUGGESTIONS ETC.
Thanks.

So, since your "friends" have been remarkably silent, I thought I'd give you some feedback, though I don't read your blog as... erm... religiously as some. (it's very good, though)
So, the continue thing is a little weird. For one, the link to the "whole thing" seems to show up whether or not the entry is continued (and if your goal was not to bury the Kaffir Boys story, your narcissism is still full length...), so I for one am not always sure if there IS more or not, and some of your lazier visitors might not be willing to take the time to click through to find out (you know who you are). So fixing that might make things a little better. Also, a more descriptive phrase than "read the whole thing here" or whatever it says might clear up some confusion - something like "the rest" or "story continued" or just "more", like on Mike's site (I'd love that to be a link to it, but I wouldn't even begin to know how to do that). Other than that, I don't have a problem with the "preview" format...
That enough feedback for you?

Yeah, the problem is the way the code is implemented in the template, there's no way to get around having it in EVERY post.
That sucks.
Unfortunately, I know just enough about DHTML and whatnot to understand why it's wrong, and why it sucks, but not enough to make something better. So it remains.
And I have to go back and change each post individually, so I'm not messing with the old posts, jsut the ones that are on the main page right now. They SHOULD all be in the summary format.
Thanks for hte comments Aleah
... hte comments ... Jesus Christ, you do need someone to correct your spelling (as though I didn't mistype that very word a hundred times a day).
Anyway, that's what I was going to say, that the presence of the 'continue' or whatever link is odd when the story is not continued. Personally, I liked the old look a little better. See, your site is already like ninety million screens tall, so there isn't too much to be gained by making it only fourty million screens tall. Plus, (trust me, I know) you'll start to get some rolled eyes from your lazier readers when they see the continued link.
If you were to reduce the number of stories on the page at a time, it might be worth it, but I don't see a huge gain as is (except in page views ;).
I think your site was fine the way it was, or you could edit the way it is right now just a little bit to make it better.

Luke-
I think the changes (including the greater frequency of posts) are great. My one recommendation is that you point your embedded links, within your posts, to a new blank page. I can understand, full well, if people hate all the new windows, but I like keeping things someone separate from the page I was coming from.
But, once again, that could just be me. Either way, it's a probably just a matter of personal preference.

Yeah peter, I like that too, now that it's 2-1 (you and me against Mike) I think I'll start doing that.
Most people don't care I don't think, and the only other guy that had an oppinion has OCD I think and likes to control everything lol.
Just kidding Mike
About the frequency, I always feel a little crunchy about posting consecutive blogs because I'm afraid of burying them, so hopefully this works out.
And after some thought and some tweaks, I like the summary form better as well
Oooh Mike, missed the comment, soz.
I see what you're saying and the fact that the continued thing stays there regardless of whether there's more to the story or not is a huge pain in my ass . . . actually, I just thought of a way to do it maybe . . .
we'll see.
So, if I could get it to only show when there actually IS more, would that be better?
I suppose so. Carry on

Ooh, here's something: Is there anyway you can get some sort of date reading on the comments? Only seeing the times a comment is posted makes it really tough to figure out if some comments are new or not when following a bunch of stories.
